Our Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Huy Nguyen as its new Executive Director.
Nguyen brings over two decades serving as an advocate for social justice. With 16+ years working with clients in the public benefits space at Northwest Justice Project, and then the last five years at the University of Washington School of Law, where he was the Director of the W.H. Gates Public Service Law Program. He has taught Public Benefits and Poverty Law at Seattle University and UW School of Law and comes to BLC with an exceptional level of knowledge, experience, energy and enthusiasm.
“We are excited to welcome Huy Nguyen to Benefits Law Center with his unique experience and passion to lead the organization to the next level,” say Abigail Daquiz and Shari Marion, co-Presidents of the BLC Board. “It is an honor to be able to serve as the Executive Director of the Benefits Law Center, which plays a crucial and critical role in our community. I am looking forward to working with its board and staff to increase accessibility and continue to serve individuals with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness/houselessness in our area,” says Nguyen.
Nguyen is replacing Alex KF Doolittle, who led BLC for 15 years as a staff attorney and then as Executive Director.
Benefits Law Center has provided legal advice and representation to low-income individuals with disabilities, in matters related to their entitlement to Social Security disability and SSI benefits, since 1997.
BLC is a compassionate legal services organization, committed to delivering:
- high-quality advocacy centered on a client’s needs;
- honor for the humanity of every client; and
- a continually inclusive, collaborative environment for all.
We have accomplished so much this year already with the addition of 4 other important new staff members joining our team. With Huy Nguyen coming on board, we are greatly looking forward to BLC’s next chapter.
Sincerely,
Shari Marion, Abigail Daquiz, and the Board of Directors
