Dear SCLC supporters,
People living with disabilities who receive help from SCLC stand on the shoulders of hundreds of compassionate people, and you are one of them.
Andrea found SCLC through a community day center for homeless people. She was pregnant and living in a tent in the undeveloped corner of a local park. Andrea lives with severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. She did not feel safe staying in a shelter. Andrea and her attorney talked about her goals of becoming housed and she learned that she can apply for Social Security.
Our Social Security system is complicated. Sometimes it takes more than two years to work through the process, leaving many qualified individuals without a means of support. Funded by your generosity, SCLC can reduce that waiting time. This is exactly what we did for Andrea.
Andrea was approved for benefits two months before she was due to give birth, and was able to move into her own apartment.
Your help is needed now more than ever. There are still thousands of people with disabilities who are homeless in King County. Your contribution is the difference between homelessness or housing, sickness or wellness, and sometimes life or death.
Please give generously this holiday season. Your gift of $500 will allow people like Andrea to secure permanent, safe housing and pay for medical expenses by assisting them in receiving the public benefits they qualify for. Your gift of any amount makes a difference.
Thank you so much for your help,
Alex KF Doolittle
Executive Director
P.S. SCLC clients are counting on your support. Your gift of $500 will change the lives of people like Andrea and her newborn. Your gift of any amount will make a difference.
