Client Day 2018

Each year, SCLC hosts a group of clients that are willing to share their story for lunch. This day holds a special place in our hearts as it is a day for us to spend time with people that we deliver service to outside of our work on their Social Security case. Client Day is also a unique opportunity for a few Champion supporters and SCLC clients to meet and share the experience of the day together.

The day starts with clients getting professional headshots. We have been honored to work with Daniel Berman Photography for the past two years. Daniel creates a fun photography process for our clients. He enjoys the experience of working with people that he would not otherwise get to photograph.

After their photo session, clients are taped sharing their experience of working with SCLC and the changes in their lives that have risen out of their cases with our organization. This year, we asked each client to bring a joke to share on camera. Be on the lookout for this video exclusively at LOL for SCLC on October 6, 2018.

The day ends with a meal shared between SCLC clients, staff, and champions. Everyone gets to know each other and share stories. “I felt that each [client] had received excellent legal help, but, just as important, each had his or her spirit lifted by the experience. Folks need this uplift, and you all gave it to them in a manner that goes well beyond an SSI check,” says board member, Jay Stansell.

One of the most powerful moments we see at Client Day is when a person who struggle with social anxiety attends. They usually start the day off rather introverted and stay near their attorney. By the end of lunch, they are saying, “I’m having a lot of fun!” There is nothing more we can ask for than chance to build community and work with such incredible people.

We look forward to sharing the photos and stories from Client Day in the coming months.
