Darren (not his real name) had a stroke which caused both physical and cognitive challenges. Being denied disability benefits and without a home, Darren and SCLC found each other. With the assistance of one of the SCLC attorneys, Darren secured an evaluation to make his case for disability coverage. Darren needed reminding about the time and place of the hearing multiple times, including the morning of the hearing, the stroke affected his memory and concentration. He made it to 3rd and Spring where the bus dropped off, the office was at the bottom of the hill. The SCLC attorney ran up the steep hill twice to find Darren wandering the top of the hill somewhat confused. She escorted him to the office where at the evaluation Darren was awarded the disability coverage he deserved.
The attorney does this from the place of compassion, and a commitment to Darren and all the people that are battling living without a home, health care and need help getting back on their feet.
