Over 330,000 people in King County, and over 1,500,000 in Washington State, currently rely on Social Security benefits to get by each month. 85 years ago this day, the Social Security Act was signed into law so that workers who qualify can claim the benefit of economic security upon their retirement. This program was created on the heels of a recession to alleviate and guard against abject poverty for older individuals.
At BLC, we celebrate this critical program every day by helping people claim their benefits and fight for integrity within the regulatory systems. We invite you to celebrate with us by registering to attend our annual event, LOL for BLC, which will be virtual this year. Today, during a pandemic of COVID-19, we are in constant communication with Social Security to ensure the due process rights of our almost 400 active clients. We also speak with dozens of people each week who need our advocacy to help hold Social Security accountable to the promise of economic security. We are operating safely – remotely, and effectively.
