This year we were lucky enough to get to hear Sandy’s story at our signature comedy event, LOL for SCLC. When we first met Sandy several years ago, she had been living in her van with her husband for over two years.
Sandy shared with us about how difficult it was to live in shelters, how cold it was living in her vehicle, and how terrifying it was when their van broke down and they faced the possibility of losing their home on wheels.
After working with a SCLC attorney, Sandy was finally approved for benefits and is able to pay rent. She no longer has to worry how cold it is going to be at night or where to find a public rest room.
According to Sandy, “Because of the work of SCLC staff, we have housing, we have hope, and we can plan for a more stable future.” Thank you for making stories like Sandy’s possible!
